Biography
After studying fashion at Central Saint Martins, Manon Steyaert began her artistic practice with a deep understanding of textiles. The French-born artist, now based in London, also holds a master’s degree in fine art from Chelsea College of Arts. Steyaert manipulates materials like silicone, latex, and cellophane to look like draped fabric by pouring them onto canvas, then painting over the tactile forms in glossy shades of color. Steyaert’s eye-catching and tactile works challenge viewers’ perceptions by upending traditional distinctions between painting and sculpture.
