Biography

Mark is a skilled printmaker and has experimented with everything from landscapes to abstract art. His colorful paintings are created using energetic brushstrokes and a sumptuous color palette. Often prompted by music, Mark believes that the mood and feeling within the painting are as important as the composition. The majority of his ideas develop in the evening whilst he is relaxing. He quickly creates a small thumbnail-sized sketch so he doesn't lose the idea, before working on the drawings at a later date. Mark has enjoyed a varied art career and originally started out by refining his etching and collagraph technique. To produce his paintings, he will often first develop a color rough to set the right mood. Following this, he creates a predominant background color with oil paints and forms the figures using light and shadow. Mark adds: "I always like to create a little energy with the brushstrokes to help give the finished painting some life. Colour choice depends on my mood."
