Maurice Brianchon

Biography

Maurice Brianchon was strongly influenced by artists such as Pierre Bonnard and Edouard Vuillard. However, by the time he came of age as an in the early 1920s, Paris as an art scene had changed. Brianchon however stylistically stayed wedded to an esthetic that looked back, and like Picasso’s at that time, could be called neo-classical. Mostly a painter, active alongside his wife Marguerite Louppe, Brianchon did create a number of attractive color lithographs, mostly of society milling about. Because of his limited output, his prints are quire scarce. Brianchon’s fame grew later in life as his work started finding its way to the United States and Japan.
