Negyem Adonoo
Biography
Negyem Adonoo is a Multidisciplinary Artist and a product of Ghanatta College of Arts and Design who lives and works in Ghana West-Africa. I investigate and explore human figures in my paintings. Negyem's works are a conversation on places and identity, providing an intimate look into social, cultural and religious realities of living in this dynamic 21st century. Expressing how those realities impact one's perspective to life as an African. My work seeks to investigate the African proverbial saying; "Look into a bottle with one eye not two". An inspiration gotten from my enquiries from the elderly in my society.I employ drawing, painting and collage. Broadly using charcoal, acrylic and fabric on canvas as a vehicle for my concept.I am interested in African proverb as a life hack. How the collective wisdom of African proverb has helped hack the intricacies of life and living.Semi realistic drawings feature in my works alongside contour lines which represent my geographical location as an artist. The collage in my work, I select choice African fabric which has the same story in relation to my subject matter to help me communicate my message, I used a cloth called "Suro Nipa" meaning "fear Man" as the jacket for the old man and a vibrant colored fabric for the child as children are more drawn towards bright colors. My use of circle around the head is a representation of Halo. To me, innocence and experience can all be a form of glory.
