Rainer Junghanns

b. 1963

Biography

Junghanns develops processual sculptures. He is concerned with time, movement, communication, places and people. He uses a variety of media and materials. The spectrum ranges from spatial medial installations in museums and other art venues to large format photographs or video style as artistic results of his projects. The work of the artist is characterized by conceptionally and temporally elaborate planned actions. For example, he undertook two trips as a passenger on cargo ships for his project "GMT +". The one tour lasted four, the other six months and together, the distances covered add up to the length of a circumnavigation of the globe. The goal of this effort is to make globality physically tangible and to pass on the impressions experienced - through video cameras that the artist has installed on the ships. For more than ten years, Düsseldorf-based artist Rainer Junghanns has drawn attention to himself through process-oriented, conceptual, media-mediated, but always sensory-oriented installations. Installations that have movement, time and space as parameters underlying the works of Junghann, visualizing time processes and reflecting on the background of globalized life contexts.
