Roland Schauls
Born 1953
After studying at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart (1974–1982) and working as a lecturer at the Free Art School in Stuttgart, he worked as a freelance artist. In 1998 he was awarded the Pierre Werner Prize by the "Cercle artistique de Luxembourg". A painting of over 100 m² with paraphrased portraits from the Uffizi has been hanging in the entrance hall of the National Museum of History and Art (Musée national d'histoire et d'art (MNHA)) in Luxembourg's old town since February 2020. Between 1995 and 1998, Schauls created the overall painting, consisting of a total of 504 historical painter self-portraits. The motifs were selected from the collection of the Self-Portrait Collection of the Uffizi Gallery in Florence and show, among others, Albrecht Dürer , Rembrandt van Rijn , Peter Paul Rubens , Velazquez and Delacroix . A private society, the "Portrait Society", deals with the rediscovery of the artistic heritage of the artists represented. Roland Schauls is a member of the German Association of Artists .
