Sander Buijk

Netherlands

Biography

Anyone who has been to Gallery Untitled knows Sander Buijk. His strikingly friendly and sturdy images are a constant eye-catcher in our spaces. Sander's work is known for its special and contrasting use of materials. The cartoon-like figures are tough and fragile, caricatured and vulnerable, emotional and closed. His use of materials is equally unorthodox. It combines cast concrete with neon, polished aluminum or elegant white ceramic. What interests Sander Buijk in the creation of images is the search for a boundary. Image that communicates well visually on the one hand and retains its individuality, spontaneity and roughness on the other. Image that is not too narrative, which stimulates the viewer to interpret. Contradictions that seemingly belong together. Buijk's work requires interaction and invites the viewer to touch the material and even give it their own twist by playing with the commonly used hinge effect or the separate parts of different materials that the artist uses. Sander Buijk exhibited his work in, among others, the Kunsthal in Rotterdam.
