Hi! I am Sean Michael Felix, artist and creator of Illumination Art & Design. Specializing in traditional gold leaf signs and architectural art glass since 1980 Gilded glass signs and storefronts are my specialties. Chicago has a captivating architectural history and gold leaf signwriting for businesses goes back to the mid-nineteenth​ century. Back then it was a sign of status typically reserved for banks, lawyers, and doctors. Today hand gilded gold signs are seeing a resurgence in independent restaurants, barber shops, tattoo studios, and other creative boutiques. This is a welcome change from the cookie cutter look of digital prints and sticks on vinyl letters. Gold leaf exudes warmth and creativity and illuminates any business, and with proper care, it lasts for many years.
