Biography
Stanley Woodward (1890-1970) was a popular New England artist and instructor having studios in Rockport, Massachusetts, and Ogunquit, Maine, as well as teaching at the Ringling School of Art in Florida and the Laguna Beach School of Art and Design in California. He exhibited widely, including the Pennsylvania Academy, Corcoran Gallery, National Academy, Boston Museum of Fine Arts, etc. He was awarded many prizes, National Academy, American Watercolor Society, Baltimore Watercolor Society, Rockport Art Association, North Shore Art Association, etc. Woodward’s use of expressive brushstrokes is well demonstrated throughout the collection which includes paintings from the Rocky Mountains, Florida beaches, Maine coastline, and other New England views.
