Biography

Tarisai is a Zimbabwean artist, originally from Harare. He is currently selling his artworks from a street within a suburb of Johannesburg, South Africa. Tarisai came to South Africa in 2013 because of the “lack of artistic opportunity” in Zimbabwe. Based on the political circumstances in Zimbabwe, art/paint shops were ordered to close. For a period of time, he had to focus on sculptures, but painting is his true passion and strength. Tarisai was ordering paint from South Africa during these times and, after researching the art scene within South Africa, he decided to move. Tarisai says that “art is his life” and that he was “born an artist.” He has described his two passions in life as, “the art of medicine meeting the art of art.” Tarisai was in medical school when he lived in Zimbabwe. He, unfortunately, had to put studying on hold because of financial constraints, but he hopes to finish his studies in cardiology. His art is now his means to make a living until he can save up enough money to continue his studies. He expresses himself through his paintings; nature is his primary source of inspiration. Tarisai does not have a particular style but switches between abstract, realist, landscape, and portrait pieces. Along with creating art, his dream is to practice cardiology and help children.
