Biography
Yvonne Canu was a French painter born on November 9, 1921, in Meknes, Morocco. She is recognized for her contribution to the Neo-Impressionist movement, particularly through her use of Pointillism. Canu's artistic journey began at the École des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, although her studies were interrupted by World War II. During her formative years, she was influenced by artists such as Élisée Maclet and Tsuguharu Foujita, who introduced her to landscape painting and Impressionism. Canu's work gained significant attention after World War II, and by 1955, she had fully embraced Neo-Impressionism. Her decision to adopt Pointillism was inspired by Georges Seurat's masterpiece, "Un dimanche après-midi à l'Île de la Grande Jatte." Throughout her career, Canu's paintings were characterized by meticulous dot patterns that captured the vibrancy of light and color. She continued to create in this style until her death on May 15, 2007, in Fréjus, France. Collectors admire her work for its technical precision and the way it captures the essence of the landscapes she depicted.
