Curro
At the end of 2008, the young gallerists Curro and Poncho opened one of the first contemporary art spaces in the now trendy mexican city Guadalajara on the award winning building “Torre CUBE” by the Catalan architect Carme Pinós. The gallery was born in response to an urgency of worthy exhibition spaces for local artists, and over the years the gallery grew its base of international represented artists. Now CURRO has established as an obligatory reference for mexican contemporary art outside the capital -ideologically and geographically. Over the years, CURRO has been featured by DAZED as one of Mexico’s contemporary art hotspots; CNN Travel included it in its list “The best things to do in Guadalajara, Mexico”; also Colección Cisneros highlighted the gallery in its article about Guadalajara art scene; and apparead on a Julia Chaplin article published on The New York Times. Several times, the National Fund for Culture (FONCA) has supported the gallery program. A year round of in-house shows, international art fair participations --becoming the first Guadalajara based gallery participating in cities such as Paris, Torino, Lima, Bogotá, Rio de Janeiro and recently on the 25th edition of Armory Show--, private and public commissioned art projects, artist books by Thomas Jeppe, Gabriel Rico, Verónica Flores and Fernando Palomar, and the first ever solo presentations in México and Guadalajara of artists like Claudia Peña Salinas, Juan Capistrán, Andrea Galvani and Richard T. Walker, are some of the highlights of CURRO’s program. During the Guadalajara 2020 Art Week known as "PreMACO" (prior to Mexico City's art fair), CURRO opened a new, bigger space at the traditional district of “Santa Tere” in the up-and-coming Mexican city of Guadalajara, as a milestone in the consolidation of the gallery and its represented artists. A fresh program will engage diverse practices and artists to reflect and dialogue with the local and international context.
